Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaopeng?
They led the Communist movement in China. The historical background is the disgruntlement against the Nationalist Party of China at the time, whose power grew weaker after fighting the Japanese in World War II. Due to economic problems and political instability, Communist forces grew more popular for their perceived civility and humanitarian efforts, while Nationalists retreated to Taiwan. Mao initiated a period of stability in China, but his radical policies became increasingly alienated from the populace during the last two decades of his rule. Deng Xiaoping started economic liberalization that brought China to where it is today.
