Is the US falling behind technology wise compared to Asia (HK etc)?

I hear so much of hong kongs technology, such as they had a version of the ipod long before us, their Imax isnt just a little bigger screen, its actually 3D etc.. so how true is this, and what countrys can you expect top technology?
