Is this too cliched for your taste?

This is definitely one of the most cliche stories ever. But I would still read it if you wrote it well. A cliche story doesn't have to have cliche phrases or cliche characters. You can make those unique (I'm not saying they have to be TOO unique, just...not freshly picked from the cliche tree, haha). Anything well-written is bearable, and anything badly written, whether it's original or not, will never be bearable. Your idea can still work! Good luck with your writing endeavors.
